Is Your AC in Need of Repair?

two-technicians-working-on-ac

Air conditioning repair is one of those services you never want to wait to address. Sure, it’s tempting to. If your system is still operating and you weren’t prepared to budget for repairs, why bother, right?

Unfortunately, ignoring repair needs means risking your cooling system completely breaking down when you need it the most, right in the middle of summer. As such, we encourage you to take care of the system as soon as you discover something is amiss.

But how do you know when this is the case? After all, you aren’t an AC professional—that’s our job! However, it is possible, and even important, to know the basics so that you know when to give us a call. Read on for some of the top signs that your air conditioner does, in fact, need professional repairs.

Your Air Conditioner Fails to Keep You Cool

This can be a pretty obvious sign that your air conditioner is experiencing trouble. But many homeowners brush this off, especially on really hot days, thinking that the problem is “just because it’s so warm outside” or the problem is “not really that bad.” It doesn’t help matters that this issue usually does occur when it’s hottest outside and your air conditioner is getting the most use.

Temperatures spike and you might just think your cooling system is struggling a bit. But the truth is, if your air conditioner used to be able to reach your desired settings on your thermostat and now it’s failing to do so, it’s time to call in a pro.

Your Utility Bills Are Too High

Now we get it, this one can be a bit subjective: doesn’t everyone think their utility bills are too high? What we want you to look at though, is how high they are in comparison to both what you paid last year for your cooling efforts and what your closest neighbors are paying.

If your energy bills are drastically higher than they should be in comparison, then it’s a sign that something in the home is working inefficiently, and your air conditioner can certainly be to blame. After all, your HVAC systems account for about half of all your home’s energy use!

Your Air Conditioner Is Short-Cycling

“What’s that?” you might ask. Short-cycling is a process where an air conditioner, or forced-air heating system, cycles on and off rapidly, never completing a full cooling or heating cycle. It’s both the symptom of a problem and the cause of further problems, so definitely not something you should ignore.

Air conditioners are designed to operate in 15-minute increments, about 2 to 3 times an hour. If your air conditioner is running shorter than this, and more often, that means it’s short-cycling and it’s time to call our number.
